Traffic Ideology is an offshoot from our main site DomainIncubation.com, and will be offering information on creating your own domain parking pages. While we were having some pretty good luck with using some of the existing parking services, we were less than happy with the restrictions on how we could promote parked domains and generate traffic to them. And while some parking services offer great creation and customization tools, they still are lacking in some areas. While some services create impressive pseudo web sites for domains, those are getting into the realm of trying to be web sites and not advertising parking pages.

We feel the parking pages can be approached as more of an commercial art form. And that we should neither try to fool the visitor into thinking they are visiting a normal web site nor drive them away with bad design, mismatched text and images, or poorly targeted ads. While generally disliked, the parking page can serve a valuable service as a type of vertical search engine for shoppers. By entering in the words they are looking for without spaces and adding a .com, .net, .org, .info, .biz, or .us they should either find a valid site or a page of ads that offers what they are looking for and are interested in.

Traffic Ideology will try to provide information, templates, ad network recommendations, promotion ideas, and SEO techniques to help domain owners that are interested in parking their domains on pages they create and maintain themselves. Few domainers with several hundred or several thousand domains can afford the time and expense of creating web sites for all of their properties. But most will be willing to invest a little time and effort to create something that should provide value for the visitor, help grow long-term domain value with content and links, only be bound by the terms and agreements of the advertisers they choose, and generate at least some modest stream of income that they can keep all to themselves.

Update: 01/13/2009 Stats released on parking page prototype proves process produces results on par with commercial services

With nearly a year's worth of data collected on a beta prototype parking page, the basic concept of creating your own parking page seems to be validated. The stats speak for themself and when you consider this is just a single page with some ads and unique content, one can only imagen if the protype had the intended menu item pages added and more content.

While not a real "parking page" in that pages are static and hosted and not served dynamically, this may be a good option for those wanting something between normal parking pages and mini-sites, or auto-generated sites that take RSS feeds and other things in order to create something that looks much like an actual web site.
